MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery Public Schools officials have named Margaret Allen the new superintendent of the district.

Allen has been serving as interim superintendent since former superintendent Barbara Thompson resigned in October.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (https://on.mgmadv.com/L4kl3L) that the Montgomery County school board unanimously appointed Allen to the position during a meeting Tuesday night. She will be paid $158,100 per year under terms of a two-year contract.

Allen has worked in a variety of roles within the Montgomery County school system during the past 30 years.

Board members said they had no plans to name Allen the permanent superintendent when they appointed her interim superintendent. But they said that after watching her work the past two months, they decided she was the right person for the job.
