AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The two key Colorado River lakes near Austin began the year at their second-lowest levels since their dams were built in the 1940s.
The Lower Colorado River Authority reports that water inflows into its Highland Lakes are at lower levels than a year ago, despite recent rain and what the LCRA calls unprecedented measures to protect the water supply.
Lakes Travis and Buchanan saw inflows greater only than the record low 2011 inflows as the LCRA says the lower Colorado River basin enters its seventh year of a historic drought.
