RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County Sheriff Mike Haley says he won’t seek re-election or run for any other office in this year’s election.
Haley was first elected in 2006. The Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/1b8O028 ) reports he announced his plans during a staff meeting Thursday.
He had been considered by some as a possible candidate for Reno mayor or a Democratic challenger for Nevada’s 2nd U.S. House District held by Republican Rep. Mark Amodei.
Haley says he’s going to sit out this election to gather his thoughts and consider what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
Haley served two terms as sheriff and ran unopposed for re-election in 2010.
