GORHAM, Maine (AP) - The state fire marshal’s office has arrested a former University of Southern Maine student in connection with a dorm fire on the Gorham campus in 2012.

Twenty-three-year-old Thomas “TJ” Williams was arrested Monday at his home on Harlow Hill Road in Mexico. He was charged with two counts of arson following an indictment earlier this month by a Cumberland County grand jury. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.

Authorities said the fire on Sept. 3, 2012, started in a recycling closet in Upton-Hastings Hall at about 2:30 a.m.

More than 200 students were temporarily evacuated from the building; no one was injured. The fire was put out by the building’s sprinkler system.

Williams was a student at the time of the fire.
