SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - One person died and another went to the hospital after being hit by a Caltrain in Santa Clara.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn says in a statement that the cause of the 5:30 p.m. Monday incident at the Santa Clara Station is under investigation.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (https://bit.ly/1hIrl1N ) that both were men, and the injured man has serious injuries but is expected to survive. Neither was identified.

Dunn says 70 were aboard the train, when ridership was light due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The Santa Clara Station reopened for stops around 8 p.m.

Dunn says this is the first Caltrain death this year. She says there were 13 fatalities in 2013.
