LUMBERTON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate an accident that killed a man who was walking in the middle of Interstate 59 in Pearl River County on Sunday night.

Trooper Brent Barfield tells The Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1iiPU8j ) 35-year-old Delbert C. Legget Jr. was killed when he was struck by two cars as he walked northbound on Interstate 59 near the Lumberton exit.

Barfield said Legget was first hit by a truck driven by 41-year-old Casey Davis, of Petal.

Barfield said Davis stopped at the side of the road immediately after the collision. Legget, who was lying in the road, was then struck by another driver, Magdaline Martin.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m.
