HAMMOND, La. (AP) - State police say a 60-year-old Independent woman died in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Hammond.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. Monday.

Trooper Greg Marchand says a car driven by 31-year-old Clifford Durio of LaPlace crossed the median and hit a car that was northbound.

Marchand said the driver of the second car, Gussie Miller, was taken to a Hammond hospital where she died a short time later. A passenger in her car was injured.

Durio was booked with negligent homicide, negligent injuring, reckless operation, felon in possession of a firearm, and driving under suspension.

The crash remains under investigation.

It was unclear whether Durio has an attorney.
