PHOENIX (AP) - An April 15 trial has been set for two people charged with murder in what authorities said was a botched marijuana robbery at a home in Surprise.
Stephanie Rene Conley and Jesse Wade Gillen have pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery and other charges in the 2012 death of Shawn Ryan and in the assault on Martin Ridgway.
Authorities say Conley and Gillen were part of a group of people who went to Ridgway’s house to get marijuana.
Ridgway told investigators that Ryan shot at him when Ridgway refused to sell marijuana.
Ryan died in a knife fight with Ridgway.
Authorities say Conley and Gillen claimed that they had been forced to participate in the robbery, though Conley said they had gone to the house with the purpose of a robbery.
