MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Lauderdale County is renewing its pursuit for funding for a trail along part of Sowashee Creek in Meridian.

The Meridian Star reports (https://bit.ly/1f6w1yj ) that board of supervisors agreed Tuesday to send the request for $100,000 to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Kawana McCary, of the East Central Planning and Development District, told board members that the grant request is approved it would require a 20 percent match by the county.

The county applied for, but did not receive the grant in 2013.

Supervisor Joe Norwood says they had been in talks with the city.

Norwood says the trail would be for hikers and bikers. He says the trail would go down one side of Sowashee, cross over, and come up the other side.
