PRAGUE (AP) - The Czech and Slovak football federations are considering setting up a common cup competition for clubs from the two nations that once formed Czechoslovakia.

Slovak federation chairman Jan Kovacik says four clubs from each country would play in the competition. He says the federations are planning a meeting in February to discuss whether the idea would work.

The two federations had previously proposed a plan for a common league but that has not yet materialized.

Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.

The officials discussed the issue during Thursday’s meeting of top representatives of central European football federations from the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
