PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - The Phenix City Council in eastern Alabama has approved a nearly $20 million bond issue for improvements to the city’s school system.

City Finance Director Steve Smith said the school district is borrowing about $10 million for new capital projects and refinancing about $10 million more in existing debt.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1muJsIZ) that the bond issue had already been approved by the school board, but also required council action.
