ZACHARY, La. (AP) - Two Zachary residents accused of leaving a pair of 4-year-old girls home alone in a locked room have been arrested.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/LKw6g4 ) 26-year-old Kyle M. Alford and 35-year-old Julie F. Hooks were booked Tuesday with child desertion.

Zachary Police Chief David McDavid said Wednesday that Alford and Hooks were stopped by police during a routine traffic stop.

Hooks said she and Alford had to hurry to get back home because her daughters were there.

Hooks told police her niece was watching the children.

Police officers went to the Cobb Street home to check on the children and found the two sisters locked in a back room in the home alone.

It was unclear whether the Alford and Hooks have attorneys.
