COVINGTON, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have apprehended a fugitive listed among the state’s top 10 most wanted.

The U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement that Stephen Melton was arrested Thursday night after being on the run for 12 days.

Melton had been wanted by law enforcement since authorities said he drove off with a Lauderdale County sheriff deputy’s SUV earlier this month. The 58-year-old Henning man was being detained on a methamphetamine-related charge when he escaped.

The statement said marshals found Melton at a home in Covington where he had taken shelter from the cold.
