COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Legislature will not meet this week because of a winter storm forecast for the Carolinas.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell and Senate President Pro Tem John Courson announced Monday that session is canceled this week for their chambers. Most legislative meetings also are canceled.

The Legislature will resume under its normal Tuesday-through-Thursday schedule next week.

A winter storm is forecast to bring snow as it moves across the Carolinas this week.

The National Weather Service in Columbia has forecast snow and sleet accumulations of several inches in the South Carolina Midlands.
