DETROIT (AP) - A 73-year-old Detroit man is scheduled for sentencing Wednesday in the dismemberment of a woman whose remains were found in his bathtub.

Alphonso Jackson’s sentencing is Wayne County Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty this month to second-degree murder, concealing the death of an individual and tampering with evidence. He accepted a deal to avoid a possible life sentence.

Jackson told a judge that the still-unidentified woman died of an overdose.

Defense lawyer Donald Cook says Jackson provided money to the woman for drugs, panicked after she died and was trying to hide the body.

Jackson was arrested May 3 after police followed a trail of blood from a sidewalk to his home on Detroit’s eastside. Remains were found in the tub and also near a burned-out house.
