ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A grand jury in eastern Pennsylvania is investigating the case of a Brooklyn woman who died in Allentown more than 30 years ago.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin on Tuesday announced the decision to send the case of 23-year-old Nancy Argentino to the investigating body.

Martin said a letter from the woman’s sisters prompted him to look into the case. He said Argentino “died under unusual circumstances” in the spring of 1983.

The investigation is expected to take several months.

The grand jury is a special tool for investigators because people can be compelled to testify or present evidence. That’s something not available to prosecutors or police during normal investigative work.
