CRAIG, Colo. (AP) - U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell’s office is apologizing after a reporter for the Craig Daily Press was barred from a public meeting on proposed sage-grouse regulations.

The Craig Daily Press reports (https://tinyurl.com/m4eezpb ) the department sent a letter of regret over miscommunications that led to Craig Daily Press reporter Erin Fenner twice being asked to leave while Jewell met with Gov. John Hickenlooper, Moffat County commissioners and other officials on Jan. 22.

The department says it wants an open relationship with the press and the public and will redouble efforts to coordinate with local government officials on access to meetings.

Media attorney Steve Zansberg said Thursday that county commissioners thought the meeting was open to the public, while Jewell believed it was a private meeting.
