CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - It will soon cost more to park your car at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where officials say the increases are needed to pay for construction, higher costs of running the parking program and upgrading shuttle buses.

The Charlotte Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1fkXZG0 ) that the biggest increases would be to curbside valet rates, which would go up almost 50 percent under the airport’s proposal. Business valet rates would rise 40 percent, daily garage rates would go up 42 percent, and long-term parking rates would go up 40 percent.

Curbside valet, business valet and daily garage rates take effect Feb. 17. Hourly rates take effect when the new, $120-million parking deck opens in November, and the long-term lot increases will take place in Feb. 2015.

Charlotte Douglas last raised parking rates in 2012.
