Texas Gov. Rick Perry is circulating a petition calling on the federal government to secure the southern border.

The petition says that Mr. Perry has been a lead advocate for bolstering border security and has been warning President Obama about the unfolding crisis on the border since 2012.

“If you are like Gov. Rick Perry, and you agree the federal government must take responsibility and secure our border, sign this petition,” it reads.

Mr. Perry discussed some of his border concerns with Mr. Obama on Wednesday, urging him to, among other things, send 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border and to rethink the nation’s “catch-and-release” policy.
