San Diego police were called to a Boy Scout camp on Monday after an 11-year-old boy apparently shot himself in the head.

Police and paramedics were called to the 1000 block of Fiesta Island Road, where the Boy Scouts of America host a summer camp, shortly after 7:30 a.m. according to several reports.

The boy was declared dead at the scene, San Diego police Officer Matt Tortorella said, according to a local Fox affiliate.

There was no immediate information on the the circumstances of the shooting or the kind of weapon involved.

The Boy Scout camp focuses on aquatics activities and does not include a shooting range, an NBC affiliate reported.

The station’s crew on the scene witnessed a large group of Scouts gathering in the center of camp just after 9 a.m.
