PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says the sale of Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula has been completed.

Hosemann’s office was appointed co-receiver of the cemetery property in 2012.

“This is the end of a long road for Jackson County Memorial Park,” Hosemann said in news release Tuesday.

“Putting this cemetery back into private ownership provides stability for this cemetery moving forward. The new owner will be able to provide consistent maintenance from years of experience in the cemetery industry.”

The cemetery was placed in receivership in 2008. Complicated liens, tax claims and litigation had to be resolved by the secretary of state’s office before the cemetery could be offered for public auction.

Terry Tutor was awarded the property after placing a public bid in the amount of $5,000. Tutor is President of Tutor Funeral Home, Inc. He also owns Southern Memorial Gardens in Simpson County; Sunset Gardens in Laurel; and Rosemont Gardens in Jackson.

The sale was approved by Judge Neil Harris in Jackson County Chancery Court.

The cemetery consists of about 16 acres and contains two mausoleums, a lawn crypt, traditional ground interments and a commercial grade lawn mower and trimmer.

Hosemann has said a perpetual care trust account of $197,000, which must be used for cemetery maintenance and care, will also be transferred upon the sale of Jackson County Memorial Park.
