BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Alyvia Walker scored 15 points and Danville defeated Shelby Valley 52-48 on Wednesday in the first round of the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 tournament.

Walker had three rebounds, two assists and three steals for Danville (25-7), which meets Ashland Blazer in Friday’s second round at Diddle Arena.

Essence Grey had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Cameron McPherson added 11 points for the Region 12 champion Lady Admirals.

Shelby Valley (24-7) shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Danville 26-19, but the Lady Kats committed 17 turnovers leading to 17 Lady Admirals points.

Taylor Rowe’s 15 points including three 3-pointers led Shelby Valley. Lakyn Mullins added eight points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Honaker had eight points and four rebounds for the Region 15 champions.
