SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - The death penalty trial of a Chesnee man opened in Spartanburg County with both prosecutors and defense lawyers agreeing Ricky Blackwell Sr. killed an 8-year-old girl in 2009.

Blackwell’s ex-wife testified Tuesday, saying she brought the child to a home near Blackwell’s house to go swimming. Brooke Center was her boyfriend’s daughter.

Prosecutor Barry Barnette asked Davis to re-create what happened, and she grabbed the prosecutor in a headlock and pointed her right hand at his head like a gun. Authorities say the girl was shot several times.

Blackwell’s attorneys say Davis tormented him, having an affair and coming to his neighborhood even after being warned to stay away. They say Blackwell was a good man almost all his life except for six seconds when he snapped.
