CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - An English professor from Marshall University has won the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia’s Professor of the Year award.

Kateryna Schray received the honor and a $10,000 cash prize Tuesday night at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.

Schray has been teaching at Marshall since 1996 and has previously been awarded the Huntington school’s top two teaching awards.

Additionally Schray serves as a certification instructor for state high school teachers, conducts writing workshops, serves as the president of the West Virginia Association of College English Teachers and a writing mentor for Marshall’s Yeager Scholars Program.

Schray received her doctorate in English the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in British literature from Georgetown and bachelor’s degrees in German and English from La Salle University.
