WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - A Woonsocket man has been arrested after two children he was supposed to be watching were found wandering city streets alone.

Authorities charged 27-year-old Justin Pomerleau with child neglect after a convenience store worker saw two very young children crossing Main Street and called police at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The shopkeeper brought the children to his store.

The Woonsocket Call (https://bit.ly/1qCb1EU ) reports that Pomerleau told police he’s the boyfriend of the children’s mother and not their father. Authorities say they went to the children’s home at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, and Pomerleau didn’t realize the children were missing.

The two children and another child were placed into temporary state custody pending an investigation.

Pomerleau is detained. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
