LOS ANGELES (AP) - A statewide Amber Alert has been issued after four children were allegedly snatched from their grandmother’s home in Los Angeles by their biological parents.

Police Sgt. Eddie Ortiz said Saturday that the children - two boys ages 5 and 7 and twin 1-year-old girls - were in protective custody because their father was physically abusive. A restraining order against Enrique Felix and Rosa Chairez required that they only their see their children under the supervision of social workers.

The maternal grandmother, Maria Chairez, told KCAL-TV she had been caring for the children for about a week when the couple forcibly took them from her home in the Boyle Heights neighborhood.

Police said the suspects fled in a dark-colored PT Cruiser with paper plates and a missing right-rear hubcap.
