TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) - The Coast Guard says it is looking into the cause of a collision in the Houston Ship Channel between a barge loaded with hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil and a cargo ship filled with grain.

A news release from the Coast Guard says no injuries were reported and no oil spilled from the barge.

Both vessels sustained damage but were stable after the Friday evening collision involving the Genius Star VII and the barge carrying 840,000 gallons of oil.

The release states the barge and the 394-foot cargo ship were taken for damage assessments.

Lt. Cmdr. Zeita Merchant of the Marine Safety Unit Texas City said in the release that a major environmental incident was avoided.
