SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 43-year-old Rhode Island woman has died after being hit by a pickup truck in central New York.

Syracuse police say Jennifer Cook of Providence, R.I., was walking with her mother Friday afternoon on a Syracuse street when a Mazda pickup truck veered across the road and hit them. The pickup truck, driven by 86-year-old James McDonald of Chittenango, ended up in a snowbank.

Jennifer Cook and her mother, 72-year-old Barbara Cook of Adams, were taken to Upstate University Hospital, where the younger woman died. Barbara Cook remains hospitalized.

Police say the cause of the accident is under investigation.
