WEOTT, Calif. (AP) - A suspect is at large after escaping from U.S. Forest Service officers and the California Highway Patrol following a chase through Humboldt County.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s officials say they were informed a little before 9 p.m. Saturday that forest service officers were pursuing a silver Jeep Liberty on Highway 36 near Bridgeville. It was not clear what sparked the chase.

The CHP eventually became involved, and disabled the suspect’s vehicle. But the suspect fled on foot into the brush and disappeared.

At some point during the incident, a forest service officer was struck and injured by the suspect’s vehicle. The officer was flown to a Redding hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Sheriff’s officials say forest service officers also shot at the suspect’s vehicle. The circumstances leading up to the officer’s injury and the shooting were not clear.
