GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) - A flight instructor whose plane crashed while he was giving a lesson has told police the craft had engine problems.

Police say 65-year-old Dennis Rumley of Greenwood and 38-year-old student pilot Brent Abshier of Indianapolis were injured in the crash of the single-engine Cessna aircraft Tuesday morning in a farm field just south of Indianapolis.

Rumley, a flight instructor for Jeff Air Pilot Services, which operates from the Greenwood Municipal Airport, told police he noticed mechanical problems before the crash landing.

Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matthew Fillenwarth tells The Indianapolis Star that Rumley was hospitalized for a head laceration to the head and Abshier was hospitalized for complaints of pain.
