LOUISA, Va. (AP) - Prosecutors have withdrawn charges against two siblings that were linked to the death of a Waynesboro reserve police officer.

Eighteen-year-old Daniel Mathis and his sister, 20-year-old Mersadies Shelton, had been charged with felony receiving stolen goods related to the theft of 45-year-old Kevin Quick’s SUV.

Media outlets report that Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire withdrew the charges on Tuesday during a preliminary hearing. McGuire says prosecutors chose not to present evidence in the cases at the hearing.

He says the move doesn’t mean the charges won’t be renewed.

Other charges stemming from an unrelated case were sent to the grand jury.

Quick was reported missing Feb. 1 His body was found Feb. 4 in a wooded area in Goochland County.

Four other suspects face gang-related charges stemming from the investigation.
