PARK CITY, Utah (AP) - Summit County authorities are looking for whoever shot and killed a dog in its own backyard.

Animal control officers say a 4-year-old black Labrador was found dead by his owners, Tom and Sherry Weaver, about 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the Pinebrook area.

Officials say the couple took the dog to the veterinarian to determine a cause of death, and an X-ray revealed the dog had multiple pellet gun wounds to the head.

Summit County Animal Control Director Brian Bellamy says his department is gathering information in hopes of finding the culprit. Once that person is identified, Bellamy says he’ll forward the case to the county attorney’s office for possible animal cruelty charges.
