LYNN, Mass. (AP) - A Lynn man has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to driving drunk and causing a fatal accident.

Gilberto Figueroa was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation; and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor causing serious bodily injury in connection with the August 2011 crash that took the life of 27-year-old Oscar Martinez.

The crash also injured Martinez’s girlfriend.

The Daily Item (https://bit.ly/1igMfpB ) reports that the 49-year-old Figueroa was taken to Union Hospital for treatment after the crash and found to have a blood-alcohol content of .21. Police also say he was driving 49 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone.

Figueroa apologized to the victim’s family in court.
