TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson woman has pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty after failing to get veterinary care for her dog after it was hit by a car.

Pima County Sheriff’s officials say the mastiff mix was hit Sept. 30.

Two days later, an anonymous call came in to the Pima Animal Care Center reporting the injured dog was at a home.

Authorities say the dog was suffering from severe infection and extreme pain as a result of not receiving veterinary care.

They also say the dog was kept in an area without water and shelter.

Authorities say the dog’s condition was too severe to treat and it was euthanized.

They say 37-year-old Francisca Aguirre was arrested and pleaded guilty in the case in January.

Her sentencing is scheduled for next month.
