PITTSBURGH (AP) - Two out-of-state women have been charged with victimizing at least two western Pennsylvania resident in a “mystery shopper” scam run out of Nigeria.

Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh have charged 60-year-old Linda Walker, of Oak Hill, W.Va. and 48-year-old Monica Mason, of Lilburn, Ga. with conspiracy and wire fraud.

The women are accused of working with Nigerian conspirators, who are not named, who sent shipments of counterfeit money orders, money grams and bank checks to Atlanta.

The women were allegedly part of a network that sent the counterfeits to people who were told to use the documents, usually worth $850 to $975, visit retail stores as “mystery shoppers.”

The shoppers were supposed to keep part of the money and return some to the suspects, but wound up paying when the documents didn’t clear banks.
