PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Two men were killed and another was hospitalized when their car struck a tree on a central New Jersey roadway.

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash, which occurred around 2:20 a.m. Sunday on East 7th Street in Plainfield. Authorities say the car apparently left the road, hit the tree and split in half.

The driver, who was only identified as a 32-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger, a 25-year-old man, were killed. A 24-year-old man sitting in the rear passenger suffered an arm injury, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
