PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say a man is in custody after another man trying to stop a fight was stabbed to death in Providence.

Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin said the unidentified 21-year-old man died shortly after he and his 26-year-old brother were stabbed Sunday morning in a confrontation with two other men.

Lapatin told The Providence Journal that officers who witnessed the assault grabbed an attacker as he tried to flee. The unidentified 30-year-old man is in custody, but has not been charged.

The brothers’ identities were not released Sunday morning as officials notify their family.

Police say an argument among two suspects and a couple escalated into a street fight. One man punched another man in the face.

The two brothers then got involved.

No other details were immediately available.

It’s the fourth homicide in Providence this year.
