NEW YORK (AP) - The wintry weather is keeping the outdoor memorial at the African Burial Ground in lower Manhattan closed.

The National Park Service says “the unusually cold and snowy weather” is keeping the memorial closed through March 31. The original closure started Nov. 17 and was supposed to go through March 3.

Any visitors to the site will still be able to access the indoor visitor center.

The burial ground dates back to the 17th and 18th century. It was rediscovered in 1991, when the remains of about 400 of the several thousand Africans and their descendants buried in the area were found during a construction project.
