COMMERCE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say two Los Angeles County men are hospitalized with burns following explosions during a drug manufacturing process.

City News Service says the blasts Wednesday night at the house in Commerce were so intense that firefighters were pulled back from the structure, which was allowed to burn.

Sheriff’s deputy Don Walker says an initial investigation of the burned-out structure uncovered a hash oil extraction laboratory.

Hash oil, also known as honey oil, is a potent marijuana byproduct extracted with butane from parts of the plant that are often discarded.

Walker says butane bottles were found inside the residence, and it appears at least one exploded.

Authorities say the men, aged 18 and 21, suffered critical burns.

Detective Frank Lyga says both are suspects who face narcotics-related charges including manufacturing a controlled substance.
