OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a 61-year-old man has pleaded guilty to embezzling from the Apache tribe.
Antonio Carattini of Apache was the second man to plead guilty in the scheme. John Pangburn of Tulsa pleaded guilty in 2013 to conspiracy to embezzle funds.
U.S. Attorney Sanford Coats says Carattini pleaded guilty Wednesday to embezzling from the tribe. Carattini admitted that in 2011, he received a $3,500 check, though he had not done any tribal work.
Both men face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. A sentencing hearing has not been set for Carattini.
Carattini’s attorney, Mark L. Henricksen, says his client is a veteran currently in poor health who made a poor choice and wishes to move past it.
