ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - A 22-year-old suburban Chicago man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the 2011 stabbing and beating death of his father.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1dsPAxq ) jurors convicted Matthew Nellessen on Wednesday. He could face the possibility of life in prison when he’s sentenced later.

Authorities say 55-year-old George Nellessen died after he was hit in the head with a baseball bat and stabbed in neck while he was tied to a chair in the family room of his Arlington Heights home.

Prosecutors relied on testimony from Marlon Green, a Chicago gang member who is serving an 18-year sentence in the slaying. He agreed to testify against Nellessen.

Nellessen is set to appear in court again on April 16.
