FLINT, Mich. (AP) - The Flint School District says it may avoid closing another elementary school at the end of this school year as enrollment stabilizes.

The Flint Journal reports (https://bit.ly/NwBZy6 ) the update came Wednesday from the district, which is cutting costs to deal with a $10.4 million deficit.

The district last year closed four schools and restructured three others. That plan included closing an elementary school at the end of this school year and another at the end of next school year. But officials say the district didn’t lose as many students as expected.

Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins says the district probably will close a non-instructional building, but plans could change. The school district is issuing layoff notices to all of its administrators in case staffing cuts are needed in the coming months.
