CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Chandler say a former officer has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

They say officers received information on Feb. 27 that Jeffrey Morgan allegedly was smoking heroin.

The 12-year veteran was assigned to the police department’s traffic unit.

Police conducted a criminal investigation and arrested Morgan on April 4 on suspicion of possession of a narcotic drug and drug paraphernalia.

They say Morgan resigned from the department on March 7 in lieu of his termination.

Police say their report is being forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

It was unclear Thursday night if Morgan has an attorney.
