ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 21-year-old Anchorage man has been convicted of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl who passed out a New Year’s party.

A jury Wednesday morning convicted Char Haire of six counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Prosecutors say Haire and the girl attended the downtown party and the 14-year-old became intoxicated with other teenage friends.

Prosecutors say Haire knew the girl was just 14 but engaged in sex acts with her anyway.

The girl told investigators she passed out and didn’t remember details of what happened but suffered injuries and reported them to her parents, who called police.

Police say DNA evidence corroborated the crimes.

Jurors began deliberations Tuesday.

Haire is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 1 and faces a sentencing range of five to 15 years.
