HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University is using a grant from Alpha Natural Resources to support an energy and power outreach program for high school students.

Engineering professor Richard Begley says the funds will be used to develop classes focused on energy and power in cooperation with the state Department of Education and the Southern Regional Education Board.

The curriculum incorporates a hands-on approach for students to learn to apply mathematical and scientific concepts to solve problems commonly found in the energy and power industry.

The amount of the grant through Alpha’s Community Involvement Program has not been disclosed.
