PHOENIX (AP) - A transient couple is in custody for allegedly plotting to kill two people after the Phoenix death of the woman’s nephew.
Authorities say 23-year-old Jessica Ann Griffin and 25-year-old Jerry Laverne Horne are being held on suspicion of two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Griffin and Horne had their initial court appearances Thursday. They were ordered held on $250,000 bond apiece. Neither has a lawyer. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for March 31.
Court documents say Griffin and Horne allegedly were seeking revenge on a couple they believe killed Griffin’s 15-month-old nephew.
The baby boy was pronounced dead at a hospital Feb. 24 after he stopped breathing at a Phoenix hotel for unknown reasons.
Griffin is the baby’s maternal aunt and main caregiver while Horne is her boyfriend.
