SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Keizer couple have been accused of sexually abusing one of the young volunteers they trained to help in search and rescue operations in Marion County.

Authorities said Friday that 33-year-old Casey Wenger and 31-year-old Rosa Wenger were arrested Thursday on charges of sex abuse and encouraging child sex abuse - having child pornography.

Deputy Chief Jeff Kuhns told the Salem Statesman Journal (https://stjr.nl/1lYjLld ) the victim, a girl, made a statement that led to the investigation.

The victim was described as 17 and a member of “Team 18.” The sheriff’s office says the contingent now numbers 57 young people trained to provide assistance in “ground searches for missing persons, evidence of crimes, and other related missions.”

The Wengers, too, were search and rescue volunteers. The sheriff’s office says they’ve been dismissed.
