BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - The village of Manokotak has honored an officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Thomas O. Madole was shot and killed on March 19, 2013, while responding to a call. His death has led to an effort to arm village public safety officers across the state.
Last week, flags were flown at half-staff to mark the one-year anniversary of his death. KYUK reports (https://is.gd/QjjHAU) a church service also was held to remember Madole’s good works and a memorial basketball tournament was held.
Manokotak City Administrator Nancy George says Madole’s service impacted all members of the community, and the village decided to honor his memory in a way befitting his great significance.
