HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - State Rep. Penny Bacchiochi (BAH’-kee-ah-kee) says she’s officially running as a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.
The Stafford lawmaker on Monday announced she is closing her candidate exploratory committee and transitioning into a formal campaign for lieutenant governor. Because she is participating in the state’s public campaign financing system, she’ll be able to transfer qualified contributions of $100 or less to the new candidate committee.
Bacchiochi said she made the decision to become an official candidate after raising $75,000.
Groton Town Councilor Heather Somers has also formed a lieutenant governor candidate committee. She’s running with gubernatorial candidate Mark Boughton.
Former U.S. Comptroller General David M. Walker created an exploratory committee and says he’s interested in being lieutenant governor.
Republicans are meeting May 16-17 to endorse their slate of 2014 candidates.
