VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped plans to pursue the death penalty in the case of a man accused of killing an off-duty Norfolk police officer in 2010.
Media outlets report that Virginia Beach prosecutors announced their decision on Monday during a motions hearing for Raymond Perry.
Perry is charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Victor Decker. He is serving a nearly 97-year sentence in federal prison in South Carolina for a string of robberies prior to Decker’s slaying.

Last week, prosecutors withdrew charges against a co-defendant, Kareem Turner of Norfolk.
